Mecca Story
In February 2025, Dar Basma, a proudly Saudi-owned culinary group, opened the doors to a brand-new dining experience dedicated to preserving and celebrating the rich culinary heritage of Al-Ahsa. Located in the heart of the Kingdom, this new restaurant introduces guests to the authentic flavors of Hasawi cuisine, a tradition rooted in the fertile lands and centuries-old culture of the Al-Ahsa Oasis.
Born out of a passion for heritage and hospitality, Dar Basma’s latest venture pays homage to the flavors passed down through generations. From the distinctive Hasawi red rice to soul-warming stews simmered with regional spices, every dish tells a story — a story of the oasis, of family, of generosity, and of the timeless traditions of Eastern Saudi Arabia.
The Restaurant
Dar Basma’s new restaurant is more than just a place to eat—it’s a tribute to the flavors, stories, and warmth of Hasawi heritage.
At the core of their menu is Hasawi red rice, a signature ingredient grown in the oasis of Al-Ahsa. Guests can enjoy slow-cooked lamb over spiced Hasawi rice, date-infused stews, herbed wheat porridge (Jareesh), and homemade breads fresh from the clay oven—all prepared with a deep respect for traditional techniques and local ingredients.
